Annual Fire Safety Day with Grand River Fire Protection District

In our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of everyone in our assisted living community, Mesa Vista held its annual Fire Safety Day on April 20th this year. Working in conjunction with the Grand River Fire Protection District (GRFPD), the staff and residents performed a fire drill and practices a full evacuation of the building. The fire safety professionals reviewed our procedures, observed the staff and residents during the drill and evacuation, and evaluated the effectiveness and performance of our life safety infrastructure.

We received a positive review, with suggestions for some minor changes. These included practicing the timing of using two-way radios to eliminate garbled or truncated communications, using plain English instead of “10-codes”, and to ensure the chain of command remains intact. Response times of both the fire alarm monitoring agency and Mesa Vista staff were noted as “very good”.

We continue our endeavor by practicing monthly fire drills and other emergency procedures and updating our Emergency Operations Plan. The expertise and fellowship of our local department has been a strong asset to us and we look forward to working with them in teh years ahead.
