For the past year, The Barth has undertaken a “culture change” program designed to further involve residents in creating a more “home-like environment” for the residence. After months of meetings with the residents/staff “Culture Change Committee” implementation of suggestions is in full swing. Some significant improvements include changes in The Barth menus, focusing on different kinds of food, for example more fresh fruits and vegetables and highlighting healthy eating. Additionally, residents have more choices in their personal menus with choices they can select to meet their palates.
Another exciting aspect of culture change is the advent The Barth Mystery Bus Trip-The Barth offers a mystery bus trip monthly. Clues are posted weekly but it is not until residents board the bus, the destination is finally announced. Mystery activities have included a trip to Red Rocks Park, the Music Hall of Fame and the Denver Botanic Gardens to view the widely acclaimed Chihuly glass exhibit. Residents look forward to these surprises and participation is at an all-time high.
Since culture change has started, more and more residents are involved. The Social and Resident Council is well attended with lots of participation and ideas. Ideas will continue to be solicited with ongoing implementation. All in all, a great success for culture change!
